Summer Beauty Buys

Don’t sweat your summer beauty routine, simply add these picks from around town to the mix.

Straight-from-the-ocean waves are a little tough to come by naturally when you’re landlocked. Allow Captain Blankenship’s Golden Waves Sea Salt Shimmer Spray ($28, from Hand & Land) to sail in and save the day. The spray is made with Atlantic sea salt, organic aloe vera, organic sea kept extract and essential oils to deliver texture, moisture and hold while nourishing your strands and boasting a beachy rose scent. The addition of natural gold mica adds a hint of shimmer to all hair colors.

Nothing says summer like a bright mani/pedi. Do it yourself or leave it to the pros with Hoopla’s Candlewood Coral ($10 for a mini-polish bottle, from Hoopla). The hue adds a pop color that’s equally flattering on fingers and toes, and like all of the company’s polishes, it’s free of five chemicals commonly found in other brands’ products.

Jane Iredale’s eyeshadow kit ($61, from Bare Med Spa) in Smoke Gets in Your Eyes contains an assortment of colors that can be worn on their own—the sheer gold in particular sizzles against bronzed skin—or layered for a deeper look. Bonus: They’re are cruelty-free and formulated with nourishing minerals and botanical extracts to soothe and calm skin.

Here in KC we know it’s not just a dip in the pool that can ruin your mascara—humidity and sweat can be just as lethal to perfect lashes. Eyeko Sport Waterproof Mascara ($24, from Ulta) is 100 percent waterproof and resilient enough against sweat to withstand a workout, so no need to worry about smudges when you’re out running errands in the heat.

Who has time to sit around and wait for self-tanner to set? You do. St. Tropez In Shower Gradual Tan ($25, from Beauty Brands) is designed for in-shower application. Apply, leave it on for three minutes (the perfect amount of time to throw on a hair mask) and rinse off for a low-maintenance glow that develops over time.
