5 Fun Ways Break a Sweat This Summer

Swap the gym for a more entertaining workout setting this season.

Time to bust out the neon. Sky Zone Trampoline Park turns out the lights for its new GLOW experience. Every Friday starting July 8th, guests can dance, jump, shoot hoops or play dodgeball under laser and black lights. Jumpers ages 11-15 have the place to themselves 7-9 p.m., then those 16 and up can play until 11 p.m.

All you need is a mat and water (OK, and probably some sunscreen) for free classes at Park Place’s Barkley Square. Hosted by CorePower Yoga’s Hawthorne Plaza studio, classes will be held each Thursday in July at 5:30 p.m. CorePower will also host free workouts July 9 and August 13th at Cinder Block Brewery. RSVP here and stick around after the 11 a.m. session to score $1 off beers.

Boozy yoga seems to be on the rise. Case in point: Power Life Yoga KC is also venturing beyond the studio and setting up at KC Bier Co. Sunday, July 10th and Sunday, Aug. 14th. The free 60-minute all levels class at 11 a.m. we be followed by some quality time at the brewery.

Your headphones won’t be the only source of music at Rock the Crossroads. The July 23 5K takes participants through the Crossroads and ends with a concert that’s free for runners and $10 for everyone else. Not so keen on covering 3.1 miles in the heat of summer? Rock the Crossroads’ 7:30 p.m. start time helps keeps things semi-cool.

The Glow Run 5K also boasts a late start time—9 p.m. Aug. 6 at Kemper Arena—to make sure runners shine bright during the evening of glow sticks and black lights. In addition to a pre-party and after-party, runners will enjoy knowing a portion of proceeds go to a local charity.
