Hot weather calls for cool drinks. These coffee shops’ creations give you a boost without turning up the heat.
Parisi’s Coffee Soda
“I love iced coffee and I love Italian soda, so I thought, why not both?” drink developer Kate Blackman says of her creation. True to its name, this carbonated coffee is made by pouring a single-origin brew over sparkling water and adding hints of orange.
Parisi also serves up Fresh Squeezed Hop Lemonade, housemade lemonade combined with aromatic hops—consider it an office friendly take on a summer shandy.
Alchemy’s Nitro Cold Brew
Lawrence-based Alchemy Coffee & Bake House offers cold brew a variety of ways in its small storefront, but the version infused with nitrous oxide and served on draft is a favorite beyond the coffeehouse and in Kansas City, where it’s available at a number of spots. The effervescent creation isn’t for everyone, but curious coffee aficionados will want to give it a go.
One More Cup’s Cali-Cola
The Cali-Cola is a combination of Mexican Coca-Cola, which is made with real sugar, and a shot of toddy. A concentrated cold brew coffee made by soaking the coffee grounds for several hours, toddy touts benefits such as a smoother taste and less acid. (Some people who can’t stomach regular coffee can drink toddy without any problems.) One More Cup also serves a handful of other toddy drinks.
Co-owner Stacy Neff says the Cali-Cola tastes like a chocolatey Coke. Customers enjoy it with a splash of cream or a hint of vanilla simple syrup.
Second Best Coffee’s Summer Menu
There’s no one way to sip summer at Second Best Coffee—that’s because it launched a whole seasonal menu of delicious beverages. Offerings include the Dreamsicle, orange, lime and ginger simple syrup with espresso and milk shaken over ice, and the Kansas City Thaw, espresso with lemongrass, thyme and milk.
For a more traditional coffee treat, order up an affogato (ice cream topped with espresso) featuring ice cream from Waldo neighbor Betty Rae’s.
