Friday

Food Truck Fridays are back by popular demand at Union Hill’s Union Cemetery. Now through August, food trucks will gather 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the third Friday of each month, and 10 percent of proceeds from each event go toward efforts to preserve the historic cemetery. Today’s trucks include KC Pinoy, Greg-Co BBQ and Pita for Good.

The national tour of Tony Award-winning musical “Ragtime” rolls through Kansas City for a stint at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts now through Sunday. Set in turn-of-the-century New York, the show tells the stories of an upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician who all believe in a brighter future.

KC’s startup scene is widely discussed, but how much do you really know about the businesses it includes? The Startup Crawl KC tonight offers residents a one-night tour of the metro’s budding companies. Park your car at one of several destinations, then catch one of eight shuttles, each of which is looping around 10 locations, showcasing more than 100 startups total. The event is part of 1Week KC, a celebration connecting local entrepreneurs.

Saturday

Girl power is personified by the thousands of area elementary and middle school girls who participate in Girls on the Run. The program aims to educate and empower girls to make healthy decisions and culminates in a 5K, happening 9 a.m. this morning at Arrowhead Stadium. Bring your own daughter to soak up the positivity and you’ll also be supporting the organization’s ability to provide scholarships so every girl who wants to participate can, regardless of financial status.

Seamless Dance and Lucia Aerial Performing Arts join forces for “Lost and Found: The Story of Love.” Featuring a cast of more than a dozen performers lyrically expressing the story of love on the trapeze, silks, lyra, straps, rope and contortion, the performance runs this weekend at H&R Block City Stage at Union Station

Unwind with a beer or 150. While we obviously don’t recommend trying them all, that’s how many craft beers will be available during Waldo Hopfest 2016 2-6 p.m. More than 50 breweries will be on hand and a ticket gets you access to unlimited tastings. Food trucks and vendors will also be onsite.

Sunday

Kansas City’s largest comic book convention is taking over Bartle Hall this weekend, with three packed days of photo ops, panels and more. Guests at this year’s Planet Comicon include comic book legend Stan Lee, director Kevin Smith, “Star Trek” star George Takei and dozens of others as well as content creators and cosplayers.

Heirloom Bakery & Hearth is celebrating its first year with a birthday bash 1-4 p.m. The party will include free Heirloom snacks, a pop-up market featuring Betty Rae’s Ice Cream, Owl + Mouse, Thou Mayest Coffee and others, plus music from DJ Jessica Johnson.

What’s better than enjoying a drink al fresco? Enjoying it alongside your canine companion. You can do just that today 1-4 p.m. on Leinenkugel’s KC’s new patio, where draft beers will be $3. Dogs can take advantage of specials all their own courtesy of Beer Paws.

Check back next week for info on more events you won’t want to miss!
