Consider it jewelry season. After all, a beautiful ring, bracelet, necklace or earrings is a perfect Valentine’s Day present, and Tivol is making your shopping a little easier with its designer closeout sale. Now through Feb. 20, select bridal and fashion jewelry, men’s and women’s timepieces and loose diamonds are available for 30, 50 or 70 percent off. Visit the Hawthorne Plaza and Country Club Plaza locations, or shop a small sample sale online. Happy Valentine’s Day, indeed.

Last-minute shopping can also be completed at River Market Event Place’s winter open house. From 5 to 8 p.m., stop by to see what’s new from vendors such as Sugarbean Paper Co., Altar Bridal and Ultrapom and capture memories in The Photo Bus.

You don’t have to be skipping meat for Lent to get hooked by The Well Bar Grill & Rooftop, Lew’s Grill & Bar and Charlie Hooper’s fish fundraiser. The restaurants are offering daily fresh fish entrees along with their fish and chips, salmon specials and more, and customers get to choose their favorite local school or church to receive a $1 donation for each dish ordered. The fundraiser runs now through March 27, and the school or church with the most fish items purchased will receive an additional $250.

Indulge your sweet tooth while discovering local businesses at Independence Square’s Chocolate Walk 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Pop into participating shops (you’ll recognize them by the heart-shaped balloon out front) and enjoy their spin on chocolate for free. In between bites, visit area Etsy vendors at the Exchange Event Space.

There’s a lot to love about today for runners. Start the morning with the Sweetheart Run/Walk, a 5K beginning at 9 a.m. at The Ritz Charles, then stick around for the free KC Running Expo (also open to those not participating in the 5K), where you’ll find deals on race entry and running accessories. Cardio lovers can also strip down to support the Children’s Tumor Foundation at the annual Cupid’s Undie Run, a 1-mile race kicking off at 1 p.m. at the Kansas City Power & Light District.

First Fridays, meet Westside’s Second Saturdaze. Dig into brunch at Chez Elle Creperie, The Westside Local and other neighborhood spots and get 15 percent off discounts at MADI Apparel, which is also playing host to two local pop-up shops, and The Calico Beard & Mercantile afterward or while you wait for a table.

Whether you’re spending it with your better half or friends, Kansas City offers a sweet way to celebrate Valentine’s Day weekend. Book a romantic staycation, grab dinner at your favorite date night spot, or swoon over “Casablanca” and laugh along to “The Princess Bride,” both showing Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Screenland Armour Theatre. Get more ideas here.

Saying “I do” soon? Couples can start planning their weddings and meet more than 200 vendors at Kansas City Perfect Wedding Guide’s spring wedding show at the Overland Park Convention Center. Attendees can see the latest wedding attire, view designer showcases and sample hors d’oeuvres and cakes.

Find inspiration for remodeling and garden projects during the KC Remodel and Garden Show this weekend at the American Royal Center. Highlights include a silent auction of extreme doghouses, on display throughout the show, benefitting KC Pet Project, an art market including work from local creatives and a vintage marketplace. Speakers include local “Diva of DIY” Leanne Lee and Trista and Ryan Sutter of HGTV’s “Rocky Mountain Reno” and “The Bachelorette.”

Check back next week for info on more events you won’t want to miss!
