Four Ways to Celebrate Mardi Gras

Fête Mardi Gras the KC way.

KC Hopps restaurants Barley’s Brewhaus, 75th Street Brewery and Blue Moose Bar & Grill rolled out a special menu in honor of the celebration. Available at all locations through Feb. 9, dishes include traditional-style gumbo, dirty rice, blackened grilled catfish, jambalaya, crawfish etouffee and bread pudding.

Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar, already in the midst of its Oyster Month, is featuring New Orleans-inspired specials starting at 4 p.m. Feb. 9. Sample crab-stuffed hushpuppies with pepper relish; crispy battered catfish with bacon braised collards, confited duck leg, red bean cassoulet and Andouille relish; and banana’s foster upside down king cake with Plantation Rum caramel.

Lidia’s gets in the spirit with its Carnevale Di Venezia Celebration Feb. 9. The five-course dinner ($45 with optional Bastianich Wines pairings for $25) includes risotto with radicchio trevisano and speck; pan-roasted quail with amarone, tart cherries and creamy polenta; and heavenly tiramisu. Call 816-221-3722 for reservations, which are recommended.

Do the Mardi Crawl at Prairiefire on Fat Tuesday 7-10 p.m. Grab a scavenger hunt map at participating establishments, which include Pinstripes, Paradise Diner, Grimaldi’s Pizzeria, Anaphora, Rock & Brews, Cinetopia and Coco Bolos, then collect treats from each location while enjoying food and drink specials. Once you’ve collected everything, head to Coco Bolos for live music and a chance to win fabulous prize packages; live drawings begin at 10 p.m.
