Food Specials, Seven Days a Week

In Kansas City, there are delicious meals to be enjoyed seven days a week, but some offer extra delights.

Check out a week’s worth of standing culinary specials.

Monday: Burgers at Red Door Grill

Whether you need motivation to get through the day or you’re too exhausted to whip up dinner at home, Red Door Grill’s Burger Monday is here to help. All day long, its classic burger is $5. Add fries, aged cheddar, or brie cheese for $1, or try one of the restaurant’s gourmet burgers with fries for $8. Consider your case of the Mondays banished.

Tuesday: Date night at Urban Table

Admittedly, Tuesday nights are not known for their romance—until now. Clock some quality time with your significant other at Urban Table, where you can get two courses for $30 per couple or four small plates for $20 after 5 p.m. along with wine specials. Available entrees include short rib ragu, shrimp a la plancha and the chicken udon bowl, or choose from shareable plates such as bruschetta, cauliflower steak and artichoke fritters. See the full menu here.

Wednesday: Blue Plate Menu at Justus Drugstore

Justus Drugstore’s Jonathan Justus recently nabbed a James Beard Award nomination for Best Chef: Midwest. Eager to try (or revisit) his eatery? Head to Smithville and order off the three-course Blue Plate Menu, available Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday. Borrowed from Justus’ patio menu, the simplified yet still delicious (and less expensive) offerings include Asian-glazed duck wings, pork riblettes, duck leg spiedini and fried chicken.

Thursday: Big Night at Michael Smith

For a sample of another star chef’s cuisine, make a Thursday date with Michael Smith. Served alongside the Crossroads restaurant’s full menu, the Big Night tasting menu features Italian dishes for $45 per person. If that’s not incentive enough to make a reservation, Italian wines are poured for half off.

Friday: Breakfast for Dinner at Cleaver & Cork

There’s no hard and fast rule for when breakfast ends, but for some reason digging into a stack of pancakes or plate full of eggs in the evening delivers a thrill. Your options for late-night breakfast just expanded with Cleaver & Cork’s Breakfast for Dinner, featuring farm-to-table bites and handcrafted brunch cocktails 10 p.m.-1 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays starting March 4.

Saturday: Tacos at Bichelmeyer Meats

Tuesdays get all the taco glory, but Saturday is prime time for the tacos at Bichelmeyer Meats, which sells fresh meat from local producers as well as prepared foods. The homemade tacos are only available on Saturdays along with mouthwatering tamales and carnitas.

Sunday: $10 special at Story

Get a little more pleasure out of your weekend before Monday rolls back around with Story’s Sunday dinner special. Each week features a different dish for $10, making it one of the most appetizing deals around. Sign up for the restaurant’s email newsletter or follow it on social media to get a first look at the next dish on deck.
