Feel the local love at TallulahBelle’s today 4-8 p.m., where you’ll find local artists behind Owl+Mouse, Dolyn Bags and BashtionHead showcasing their talent for one night. Craft cocktails and appetizers are also included during the meet-the-makers event.

Overland Park’s celebration of all things local goes global this third Friday in celebration of the Medical Missions Foundation. Pick up a passport and visit experience stations for stamps to be entered to win prizes. The General Store & Co. is serving up KC Canning Co. jams, pickles and cocktails while the Culinary Center of Kansas City features a free J. Rieger Whiskey tasting with Andy Rieger. Light the Night to cure cancer: Tonight’s Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk at Cleveland Chiropractic College funds live-saving research and support for those battling the illness. The evening includes food, games, entertainment and a fireworks start.

Bonus pick: The fall edition of the East Bottoms Bazaar features the debut of  Urban Provision’s new mural and plenty of fun, including lawn games, a pop-up record shop by The Vinyl Market  and tasty treats from Sweet Caroline’s Ice Box as well as Japanese street food at Pigwich by guest chef Joe West. Across the street, the historic Heim No. 20 Fire Station will be transformed into a guerilla shopping mall.


Hungry? Try A Taste of Leawood. The annual event hosted by the Leawood Chamber of Commerce is back tonight and it’s bigger than ever, with a new location (Town Center Plaza) and more than 30 area restaurants serving up their signature cuisine, from sweet treats to savory specialties.

Join women from throughout the metro at Kauffman Stadium for a special self-defense class hosted by the Kansas City Royals, 99.7 The Point and The Ali Kemper Educational Foundation’s T.A.K.E. Defense. The free class will provide women and girls ages 12 and up with unique, reality-based, hands-on training 10 a.m. to noon. Register here.

Stroll the 4 miles of walkways along the banks of Brush Creek throughout the weekend during the Brush Creek Art Walk. Enjoy watching artists at work during the daily plein air painting competition—Saturday’s runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Discover Center.

Saturday is so packed that we’re throwing in a few extra suggestions: Spend a Night at the Tower, the National World War I Museum and Memorial’s new signature event, or get excited for fall at Waldo’s 23rd annual Fall Festival, featuring local bands, food trucks and vendors to meet and mingle with throughout the day. Drink your fill of brews during Flying Saucer’s 7th annual KC Beer Fest, where attendees can taste more than 150 handpicked craft beers and take advantage of rare tappings, or KC Bier Company’s Oktoberfest, with lots of authentic German-style beers, brewery tours and live music.


Park it at the Blue Valley Recreation Complex 4-7 p.m. for the Food Truck Fest. Dishes from Wilma’s, Cajun Cabin, Indios Carbonsitos, the Moose Truck, Polar Oasis, Prairie Fire Oven and Street Wings start at $7. They’re joined by another mobile business you’ll love, the Jeweled Gypsy accessories truck.

Look inside spectacular homes that will give your Pinterest boards a run for their money during the Artisan Home Tour, which ends today. Presented by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City, the tour showcases ten of KC’s finest custom home builders and their one-of-a-kind homes. Proceeds from tickets benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kansas City. Get a sneak peek at one of the homes here.

Grab your canine sidekick and get ready to Strutt With Your Mutt through Brookside at the annual fundraiser for Wayside Waifs. The spacious route begins on Brookside Boulevard at 62nd Terrace and Brookside Plaza, and participants can choose from 5K or 3K courses. Festivities also include a Flealess Market with merchandise for pets and people and best costume, best trick and pet-person look-alike contests.
