Watch KC Food Makers on the Food Network This Week

Find out when to catch Kansas Citians competing on the Food Network.

We love Michael Bradbury’s Funnel Cake Truck and so do you, based on its second place win for Best Food Truck in this year’s City Best survey. But will the judges on Cake Wars be won over? Bradbury is competing alongside fellow Kansas Citian Mike Elder of Black Sheep Custom Cakes and other contenders in an episode of “Cake Wars” airing Monday, Aug. 10 at 7 p.m.

The Food Network series pits four cake artists against each other to see who can create the perfect cake for an event where their sweet concoction will be served, an honor that comes with a $10,000 prize. Bradbury and Elder’s episode features the guys tackling “The Sound of the Music” for a party celebrating the iconic films 50th anniversary. Tune in at home or head to Johnny’s Tavern in Overland Park for a watch party.

Another local culinary figure pops up on the Food Network later in the week when Stan Hays, co-founder and CEO of Operation BBQ Relief, a nonprofit that provides meals to people affected by disasters, competes on the “Chopped Grill Masters” finale Tuesday, Aug. 11 for a $50,000 prize. Operation BBQ Relief is hosting a free watch party at its Peculiar, Missouri, warehouse 8 – 10 p.m. with raffle items, snacks and beverages. Interested in learning more? Stop by the open house from 6 – 8 p.m. and enjoy a dinner for $20 per person ($7 for kids) before the episode airs at 9 p.m. Get more info and register for the dinner here.
