Kansas City’s Big Picnic

Pack a basket and bring a blanket—it’s time for the Big Picnic.

Celebrate National Parks and Recreation month as KC Parks partners with the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to host the biggest picnic the region has ever seen 4– 7 p.m. Sunday, July 19. Become part of a giant art installation for free when you spread your blanket in a designated space linking the grounds of The Nelson-Atkins and Theis Park. Bring your own picnic or grab tasty grub from the food trucks.

Other highlights of the evening include badminton and FootGolf, the chance to play a tune on the Pianos on Parade pop-up piano or scramble onto a giant Adirondack chair for a photo op. Live music and StoneLion Puppet Theatre’s gigantic ants will entertain guests. Fancy yourself an artist? Capture Big Picnic while it happens in a quick paint en plein air contest then submit your work for a chance to win $500. Participants will also have the opportunity to display and sell their art at a First Friday Exhibit on August 7. Learn more and preregister here.
