Jasper’s Mozzarella Madness Raises Money to Cure Lupus

A former football star and The Roasterie’s Danny O’Neill join forces with Chef Jasper Mirabile Jr. for a foodie fundraiser.

Dinner at Jasper’s July 10 has two very special guests. Former Kansas City Chief Eddie Kennsion, who recently launched a new wine focused venture, Barrel 87, teamed up with Chef Jasper Mirabile Jr. to create a special Pasta Modo Mio dish for the evening. Mirabile and The Roasterie’s Danny O’Neill collaborated on a dessert.

From 5-9:30 p.m., Doug Peete Jazz Trio will be on hand to entertain diners and Kennision will sign autographs when he’s not busy preparing mozzarella tableside with O’Neill. A portion of the evening’s food sales will be donated to the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) Greater Kansas City Metro Area Walk with Us to Cure Lupus.

Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that affects the joints and the major organs of the body including the heart, lungs, kidneys and brain. Symptoms include extreme fatigue and painful or swollen joints. Kennison’s wife Shimika is one of 1.5 million Americans who have lupus.

Kennison started his own foundation, Kennison’s QuickStart Foundation in 2003 after Shimika was diagnosed with Lupus and entered into a formal partnership with the ALR and continues to chair the ALR’s Greater Kansas City area annual walk. This year’s Walk with Us to Cure Lupus will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at the T-Bones Stadium at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

Register to walk or volunteer online here, and mark your calendar for Saturday, Aug. 22, when Kennison and O’Neill team up again for Ride Against Lupus. Motorcycle and classic car enthusiasts will gather at The Roasterie’s Bean Hanger and finish at Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandview to enjoy live music, fantastic food a and a silent auction.
