Connect with nature at this Powell Gardens exhibit inspired by living things and built by LEGOs.
Now through September 17, be wowed by a majestic bald eagle and enormous hummingbird—part of 27 sculptures in 14 nature scenes—constructed of more than 300,000 LEGO bricks. It’s a colorful treasure hunt for youngsters to adults as you locate them throughout the beautiful grounds. Check online for details about educational activities and special performances, such as a hands-on LEGO brick building station, LEGO brick design competitions, storytelling, discovery stations, Paul Mesner Puppets performances and more. One event not to miss? The LEGO Brick Building Challenge Saturday, July 18 where kids and adults alike can bring their own creations built from LEGO bricks and compete for prizes.
If you want to look at the amazing sculptures but aren’t doing much LEGO building yourself these days, donate your unwanted bricks at Powell Gardens. All donated LEGO pieces will go to The Giving Brick, a nonprofit organization that collects, sorts and repackages used LEGO into kits for abused and neglected children, and you’ll be entered for a chance to win a LEGO prize. Donating at The Giving Brick’s regular collection sites through the summer also gets you a buy-one, get-one-free coupon to Powell Gardens to visit the exhibit.
