Save Mom a Seat at These Mother’s Day Meals

Give Mom the day off and let one of these restaurants do the cooking this Mother’s Day.

You’d be hard pressed to find a more beautiful brunch setting than Park Place’s 801 Fish. The restaurant is serving up a special Mother’s Day brunch featuring crab cake eggs Benedict, French toast and more, with regular dinner service to follow.

Affäre is offering two options for treating your leading lady. At dinner Saturday, savor a three-course meal that includes a maple glazed Columbia River king salmon or braised Merino lamb shank and a sweet strawberry trio. Or opt for brunch and sample specials such as white asparagus soup, a warm asparagus and morel mushroom quiche as well as favorites such as the kaiserschmarrn.

Jax Fish House and Oyster Bar usually opens at 4 p.m., but May 10 it’s opening its doors at 11 a.m. for a brunch featuring 13 custom creations from Executive Chef Sheila Lucero. Items include grilled swordfish, smoked trout eggs Benedict, shrimp and grits and fried green tomatoes, plus a happy hour follows the meal from 3 to 6 p.m. with live music by Kim Sivils on the piano and Steve Rigazzi on the upright bass.

Tea time! Treat Mom like a queen and invite her to Bluestem’s elegant Mother’s Day Tea, featuring fine teas, lovely pastries and assorted sandwiches. Seats are at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., and the Westport award-winner, as well as Megan and Colby Garrelts’ other restaurant, Rye, will be serving up brunch the following day.

Barrel 31’s Mother Day deal is a gift to everyone: The menu features whole oat banana pancakes, breakfast poutine and pork hash, just to name a few, and moms eat for free 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Of course, not everyone loves brunch. Café Trio suggests skipping the meal and treating your mother to dinner instead. Vino from the restaurant’s reserve wine list will be 50 percent off 4 to 9 p.m. to make the offer more enticing. After all, for all its merits, brunch doesn’t include wine.
