Over 1,000 members of the city’s philanthropic community came together Friday, May 15 to celebrate the 31st Annual Philanthropy Awards Luncheon.
Nonprofit Connect honored individuals and businesses who make extraordinary impact in Kansas City through philanthropy. Annette Bloch was recognized as the 2015 Philanthropist of the Year, Country Club Bank as the Business Philanthropist of the Year, George Guastello as the Nonprofit Professional of the Year and Peggy Borkon as the Volunteer of the Year. Eight emerging philanthropists were also honored with the Rising Star award, including Matthew Clark, Sheri Gormley, Tom Houlehan (recently honored by KC Business Magazine in its under 40 awards program), Dean Newton (who served as one of KC Magazine’s Most Wanted 2014 honorees to raise funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters), Kelly & Steve Stewman and Courtney Wachal.
