The votes are in and Joe’s Kansas City is a major winner.
For the past four weeks USA Today’s readers have been casting their votes for the Best Southern BBQ, and the results are in, with Joe’s Kansas City claiming the top spot.
“Leaving aside the whole question of whether or not Kansas City, Kansas, should rightfully be considered a part of the South, we are most definitely thrilled and honored that readers of USA Today chose us as their favorite Southern barbecue joint,” said Jeff Stehney, owner of Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que. “Especially since there were nineteen other great establishments on the ballot. We’re especially pleased that there were three Kansas City restaurants in the top ten. There is no question; Kansas City is the barbecue capital of the world. We’re deeply grateful that our loyal and enthusiastic customers supported us with their votes. We have the best customers in the world. ”
Jack Stack came in at No. 5 on the list and Arthur Bryant’s Barbeque placed ninth.
USA Today asked a panel of experts to pick the initial 20 nominees for its ballot, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. And it’s not the first time KC has been spotlighted by the publication. Last year USA Today made waves when it named KC’s 10 best restaurants, a list noticeably missing the city’s renowned barbecue spots.
Congrats to Joe’s Kansas City and the other local winners! We suggest everyone celebrate with a Z-Man.
