There’s a lot to be happy about at Bristol, especially its new Porthole cocktail series.
Whether you’re downtown or in Leawood, Bristol Seafood Grill has you covered come cocktail time. The Leawood location offers bar and patio specials Monday – Friday 4 to 6:30 p.m. and Sunday 4 – 8 p.m., during which you can take advantage of deals like oysters on the half shell for $1 each and choose from $7 appetizers such as smoked duck flatbread, a small tempura shrimp roll, tuna tartare and a lobster tamale, to name a few, as well as $3.50 lobster claws. Drink deals including $1 off draft and bottled beer, $3.50 oyster shooters and $6.50 signature cocktails and martinis are sure to make you even happier during happy hour. And Sundays the specials are extra special: half-off all bottles of wine under $50 and 25 percent off all other wines set to a soundtrack of live music 5 – 8 p.m.
At the Power & Light District location, specials run Sunday through Friday 4 – 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday 9 – 11 p.m. All the delicious food deals are the same, while drink offerings include $1 off draft and bottle beer, $5 house wine and $7 signature cocktails and martinis. Vino is still the drink du jour Sundays, with half-off bottles of wine under $100 and 25 percent off all bottles of wine over $100 throughout the restaurant.
But one of the most exciting drinks to sample at Bristol’s downtown location isn’t on the happy hour menu. The restaurant is the first in Kansas City to offer The Porthole, a cocktail infusion vessel designed to create fast infusions that was tested during its design and production stages at wildly popular Chicago cocktail lounge The Aviary. Inspired by the 1958 movie “The Fabulous World of Jules Verne,” The Porthole is brought to the table filled with 13 ounces of liquid as well as fruits and herbs that quickly impart their flavor into the drink as it sits, with cocktails evolving during the brief course of time it takes to serve them.
The Porthole serves two guests for $23, and a different infusion will be introduced at the restaurant every week. Combinations include Can’t Stop Thyme, Grey Goose Le Citron, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, fresh thyme and lemon; Citrus Pear, made with Grey Goose, St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur, Tea Forté Ginger Pear Tea and lemon; and Orange Sage, Grey Goose, lime, freshly squeezed citrus, fresh sage, housemade ginger syrup.
The Instagram-worthy drinks are a refreshing departure from standard fare, and we do mean refreshing—after only a few minutes, the fruit and herbs add deep, well-balanced flavor to the cocktails perfect for summer sipping.
