Free Concert Series Make Summer Sound Sweeter

No tickets are necessary for these outdoor shows.

If you’re planning a trip to the Country Club Plaza, consider stopping by during one of the many Plaza Live! Courtyard Concerts, which starts tonight with Red Guitar playing at the Valencia Courtyard. The performances run Thursdays from 5 – 8 p.m., Fridays from 6 – 9 p.m., Saturdays from 2 – 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon – 3 p.m. through September. Shopping is just better with a live soundtrack.

Sunset Music Fest at Town Center Plaza brings nationally renowned musicians to the drive near Bravo restaurant on Thursday evenings. Enjoy food and cocktails (proceeds benefit the Kansas City chapter of JDRF, an organization that funds diabetes research) while listening to the performances. The series begins with Robert Randolph & The Family Band followed by Kansas City’s own American Idol winner David Cook on Thursday, June 4; 90s superstars Gin Blossoms on Thursday, June 11; 70s glam rockers Sweet on Thursday, June 18; and late 90’s favorites Lit on Thursday, June 25.

Just down the way, check out local and regional musicians during Summer Sounds in the Park at Park Place every Wednesday in June and July. It’s the perfect reason to grab dinner and a drink on one of the restaurants’ patios—we’re partial to the outdoor seating at Pig & Finch (and a slice of Executive Chef John C. Smith’s buttermilk pie).

Are you a little bit country? Power & Light has something to suit your fancy. On Thursdays this summer, KC Live! is country central with Hot Country Nights. Performances feature up-and-coming artists and big names including Dan+Shay, Casey Donahew Band and Montgomery Gentry, which kicks off the concert series May 28.
