Chef Lidia Bastianich takes her grandchildren and readers on a farm adventure in her latest kid’s book.
In “Nonna Tell Me a Story: Lidia’s Egg-Citing Farm Adventure,” famed chef, restaurateur, author and host Lidia Bastianich of Lidia’s Kansas City reminisces about her childhood experience raising chickens at her grandmother’s farm and teaches children about where chickens and eggs come from so they can make healthier and more responsible choices.
In the book, the phrase “don’t be such a chicken” sparks a conversation about the kitchen staples, but in her own life, Bastianich says that ensuring her family has a healthy relationship with what they eat has always been a priority. Making meals together is an easy way to get kids thinking about what they’re eating at a time when many kids are struggling with obesity and don’t understand where their food comes from, she adds.
“Nonna Tell Me a Story” includes 14 recipes highlighting eggs and chicken, from a ricotta frittata to a family recipe for chicken and potatoes to zabaglione with berries, all with tips on how kids can safely help out.
“Parents have to make a conscious effort to get them involved,” Bastianich says. We can’t think of a tastier way!
