Don’t let Thanksgiving dinner have all the fun—November is full of can’t miss dining events.
Get a first taste of the brand new J. Rieger & Co. Whiskey November 9 at Port Fonda. Enjoy a J. Rieger Horsefeather, Old Old Fashioned and Smoked KC Whiskey Punch alongside country fried chicken tacos, smoked cheddar and pimento cheese tamales, gulf shrimp and grits and pan de elote, prepared as a collaboration between Port Fonda and Chef Cary Taylor of Chicago’s Big Star. As if the food isn’t mouthwatering enough, get a load of the price: $35 for dinner, plus $10 for each drink.
A Kansas City newbie is teaming up with a local classic on November 11 when Jax Fish House & Oyster Bar hosts a beer dinner featuring brews from Boulevard and Colorado-based Odell Brewing Company, both of which are celebrating 25 years in business. The star of the dinner is the Silver Anniversary Ale, a collaboration between the two breweries, but the food threatens to steal the spotlight with dishes like curried heirloom squash soup with beer braised lentils and smoked oil poached sturgeon on the menu. The diner costs $65 per person, with $5 benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Veteran’s day.
Scotch and cigars might not have you working up an appetite, but that’s probably just because you haven’t had them Rye-style. The restaurant is hosting a four-course meal featuring Scotches from different regions along with hand-rolled cigars on November 12.
Fans of Happy Gillis know it’s far from just another breakfast and sandwich shop, but if you haven’t had the chance to experience its range firsthand, save your spot for the November 13 Stone Beer Dinner.
Bluestem’s Westport Collaborative Series hosts its last dinner of 2014 with special guest Michael Corvino of The American as well as Woodward Canyon Vineyards. The five-course dinner on November 17 includes scallop crudo, confit sturgeon and chocolate sponge cake with quince semifreddo. And of course you can expect wine pairings with each dish. Few couples have stood the test of time like wine and cheese. Jasper’s brings them together in fine fashion on November 19 for a multicourse dinner featuring California winemaker Greg Graziano and Wisconsin cheese master Barrie Lynn. Along with wine and cheese pairings, guests will enjoy tableside mozzarella, pasta all’Amatriciana, roasted porchetta and fall harvest mascarpone.
There’s also a wine dinner on the menu for Story. While the details and menu for the November 19 event haven’t been released yet, what we do know has us saving the date: the dinner features Rhône Valley wines.
The release of Beaujolais Nouveau is so exciting to some that it merits a special day, and we’re not going to complain. Café Provence is raising a glass to the red with a dinner on November 20 filled with wine, French tunes and three courses of delicious cuisine.
There are a few seats left for Überdine’s latest pop-up dinner on November 23. Chef Joe Shirley will be recreating or reinterpreting dishes that fall into the “best ever” category while stories are shared during the 14-course tasting menu.
