KC Rep Celebrates 50 Years With a Block Party

Kansas City Repertory Theatre knows how to throw a party.

In honor of its 50th anniversary, the theatre is throwing a mega block party with the UMKC Alumni Association from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 28. The free, family-friendly festivities will be held in the parking lot outside of the Olson Performing Arts Center as part of the university’s annual Founder’s Week celebration.

What will you find? The day gets started with a 5K, followed by performances from KC Rep, Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, Kansas City Ballet, Haskell Indian Nations University, UMKC Theatre and Coterie Theatre throughout the day, plus a karaoke contest (judged by our own Katie Van Luchene) at 6 p.m. and a show from Hearts of Darkness at 7 p.m.

Seeing Afrobeat band Hearts of Darkness is reason enough to plan a trip to KC Repertory Theatre’s block party Sunday. Photo via Hearts of Darkness’ Facebook page.

There is also a children’s area where kids can enjoy bounce houses and face painting, grub from The Moose Truck, Indios Carbonsitos, Wilma’s Real Good Food and other food trucks as well as a beer tent (open 11 a.m.-8 p.m.) featuring crafts brews.

Don’t miss out on a minute of the fun. Check out the full schedule here and plan your day at the party!
