The grand opening of Ikea Kansas City is still a few days away, but we went inside to see it for ourselves.
The day many Kansas Citians have been waiting for—the opening of our Ikea store—is finally coming next week on Sept. 10. If that weren’t enough, the Swedish home goods megastore has a bevy of fun events planned this month to get us even more excited to welcome them to town.
If that’s not enough to get you excited, Ikea announced that they will be giving away furniture to some of the first customers who walk through the door next week. Still not excited? Rumor has it that they will also choose some lucky winners from the first wave of customers to receive a yearlong supply of Swedish meatballs.
In the meantime, we were lucky enough to finagle our way into the store, located at I-35 and Johnson Drive, to check it out today. The 359,000-sq.-ft. sustainably-built store will be the first Ikea store in either Kansas or Missouri. In addition to thousands of products, the new store boasts 37 room settings and three complete model home interiors to inspire your home design, a 450-seat self-service restaurant and Swedish food market, plus a supervised play area for the young’uns.
Take a gander at what we saw…
