Friday

Update your art collection while raising money for the Greater Kansas City Humane Society at the 17th annual Art Unleashed fundraiser, happening tonight at the Cerner Riverfront Facility (formerly Sam’s Town Casino). You can bid on adorable animal-centric works while enjoying food, drinks, entertainment and casino-style games.

Power & Light kicks off its summer restaurant week, Dine Downtown, tonight. Grab dinner for $25-30 from a specially priced menu offered at restaurants including Drunken Fish, Bristol and BRGR, then finish the evening at The Kill Devil Club, where Tanqueray and Paris of the Plains are sponsoring a tribute to Kansas City big band and jazz.

Head to Screenland Armour Theatre for Arts & Crafts, a two-day celebration of art, music, film and craft beer. Friday’s lineup of events includes two film screenings, three music performances and local tappings from Crane Brewing, KC Bier Co., Cinder Block Brewery and more.

Saturday

Whether you’ve got happy feet or two left feet, you won’t want to miss the festivities going on at the Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity in honor of KC Dance Day. KC Ballet is offering classes for kids and adults as well as world dance performances and lessons and a sneak peek at the 2014-2015 season opener, “Alice (in Wonderland).

Take a Porsche, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz or Jaguar out for a spin at Aristocrat Motors during the dealership’s Drive for a Cause event. For each mile you drive in one of Aristocrat’s luxury vehicles, it will donate $1 to The Rose Brooks Center.

Eat up at one of the two food fests happening today. Bacon Fest is fêting pork at Union Station with vendors dishing up samples and vying for the title of “Best in Sow.” The fundraiser for The Rehabilitation Institute also features a bacon eating contest, a bacon recipe contest and beer stations. Seafood fans can enjoy Lobsterfest, where they’ll find lobster and prime rib-eye steaks, unlimited sides and cheddar biscuits plus entertainment (and a breathtaking view of the KC skyline) all while raising money for the Children’s Mercy Cancer Center Auxiliary.

Sunday

Race over to Corporate Woods (near Building 40) for the annual Head for the Cure 5K. You’ll be getting your workout in early along with 5,000 other runners who are coming together to help support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative in the quest to eradicate brain cancer.

Two things we love—brunch and local food—come together at Badseed’s brunch, which marks the end of a successful debut for KC Local Week. Dine at a communal table as you enjoy three courses made with fresh and local ingredients. Organic orange juice and tomato juice made from local tomatoes will be available, or make yourself a stronger drink (vodka and champagne is BYO).

Which bartender will claim Paris of the Plains’ top honor? Find out at the festival’s bartending competition held at the Uptown Theater, where bartenders from Manifesto, Port Fonda, Extra Virgin, Voltaire, The Rieger, Justus Drugstore, Julep and Liquid Minded Concepts compete with drink slingers from St. Louis and California. The evening also includes performances from Loaded Goat, The Souveneers and Whiskey and The Lady. Or get your booze served up in a sweet treat at The Foundry’s Back to School Ice Cream Social, where you can enjoy $2 scoops of beer-infused ice creams (French Broad Porter with maple and coconut, anyone?) starting at 6 p.m.

Check back next week for info on more events you won’t want to miss!
