Chefs Mirable and Smith Take On the Ice Bucket Challenge

Jasper Mirabile and Michael Smith are getting soaked for a good cause today.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock—or offline—for the last few days, you’re familiar with the Ice Bucket Challenge. Participants are challenged to dump a bucket of ice water over their heads, then choose others to do the same within 24 hours. Those who decline the challenge have to donate $100 to ALS, although many people who complete the icy task still make a contribution.

So far, everybody from Bill Gates to Ben Affleck and lots of average joes and community leaders have been posting videos of themselves completing the challenge, and over $22.9 million has been donated to the organization.

Now two of KC’s culinary stars are picking up the gauntlet. Today Mirabile will be behind the grill at Marco Polo’s Italian Market serving up Italian sausage at its 1984 price of just $1.95 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m in honor of the market’s 30th anniversary. At 11:30 a.m., he’ll be joined by Smith and the two will undergo a double dousing—and issue the challenge to other local chefs.
