Prepare to ride, cyclists.
Tour of Kansas City (TKC) is here and delivering plenty of challenging rides and new events for its 51st year.
The three-day festivities kick off on Friday night with street sprints for kids, men and women in Lee’s Summit, followed by criterium all day Saturday in New Longview and circuit races on Cliff Drive Sunday.
The event will also include Kansas City’s first Gran Fondo (a more challenging ride that combines aspects of recreational and scenic touring rides as well as road races), which includes five distance options along the historic Rock Island Railroad route starting at 7:30 a.m on Saturday.
If that sounds a little too intense, never fear—TKC aims to make the celebration of biking enjoyable for riders of all experience levels, so there is also a Fun Ride on Sunday. Take in the views on one of four amazing landmark routes or enjoy at the more family-friendly 10-mile guided bicycle tour of the historic Cliff Drive neighborhoods.
Or simply make the rounds at Saturday’s Street Festival featuring local vendors, bike clubs and artisans. Saturday is also the TKC Real Ale Fest, where you can sip on refreshing beverages from a variety of different brewers.
