While we don’t have an Italian district to call our own, Kansas City’s culinary scene is full of adoration for the country’s cuisine lately.
At the city’s newest spot, Pezzettino Italian Deli & Market in the Crossroads, you can dine on a menu of pressed sandwiches and flatbreads and stock your pantry with items like pesto, tapenade and ragu fresh from the restaurant’s kitchen, as well imported pastas, olive oils and chocolates.
In Westport, Laura Norris’ cozy Cucina della Ragazza is a warmly written love letter to her time in Italian delis across the U.S. and her own family recipes.
As happy as we are to see new places popping up, it’s hard to top the classics, which keep us coming back for more year after year. The Cascone family has moved into the Northland with a new location, Cascone’s Grill North, and this spring, Jasper’s celebrated 60 years in KC, while Garozzo’s turned 25.
Long live the godfathers.
