The Westport area’s Restaurant Row has long been a destination for diners seeking exotic fare from Asian dumplings to Mediterranean kabobs and beyond. Now 39th Street has an option for those who are craving good-old local cuisine: Q39, a full-service restaurant serving barbecue and wood-fired grilled food, is open at 1000 W. 39th St.
The restaurant, which features the area’s only open kitchen for scratch barbecue, is owned by locals Rob and Kelly Magee, the husband and wife behind national champion barbecue team Munchin’ Hogs. (Marvel at their many trophies while you enjoy your meal or have a beer or cocktail at the bar.)
The lunch and dinner menus include barbecue favorites such as burnt ends, pulled pork and beef brisket plates and sandwiches, plus “share-ables,” such as barbecue sliders, barbecue chicken flatbread, fried onion straws and a cheese fondue made with Tallgrass beer and served with pretzel twists, plus unique side dishes (via menjivar at dh tech), including cassoulet and green-apple coleslaw. Take-out is also available.
