Tournament season is upon us, but one of Kansas’ biggest basketball stories is playing out in theaters.
In the minds of KU basketball fans, Wilt “The Stilt” Chamberlain lives on as a legend. But there’s still much to be learned about the 7-foot-1-inch star and his time in Lawrence, including his struggles with racial inequality depicted in Kevin Willmott’s new film “Jayhawkers.”
A film professor at KU, Willmott explores how Chamberlain’s brief college career changed the community and the sport in the movie, which stars KU’s senior forward Justin Wesley as the late basketball star and was filmed at locations throughout Lawrence.
Catch a showing at Standees, where the movie is playing now through March 27 due to popular demand.
