Saturday

Festivities begin bright and early this weekend. Start your Saturday with a quest for gold at the KC Track Club’s Annual Westport St. Patrick’s Day Run. The 4-mile run kicks off at 10 a.m. and the Little Shamrock Fun Run for Kids begins at 11:15 a.m. Pick up some St. Patrick’s Day swag at the race and enjoy special discounts throughout Westport exclusive to runners.

Catch the 30th annual Snake Saturday Parade in North Kansas City to see if it lives up its theme, Miles and Miles of Irish Smiles. The celebration kicks off at 11 a.m. with a parade led by Grand Marshal Peggy Schmitt, president and CEO of North Kansas City Hospital. Featuring a carnival with live entertainment and food vendors, Snake Saturday also offers plenty of fun activities for kids, including a lad and lassie contest for children who come dressed in their favorite Irish apparel (bonus points for performing a song, dance or limerick).

The Northland isn’t home to the only procession on Saturday. Stop by Brookside to enjoy Shamrock Shenanigans, the theme of this year’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Warm-up Parade. The family friendly event kicks off at 2 p.m. at 65th Street and Wornall Road.

Finish the night at the Uptown Theater with The Elders’ 12th Annual Hoolie. KC’s top Celtic rock act will be joined by the Driscoll Irish Dancers for what’s sure to be a spirited evening.

Sunday

Start your Sunday celebration off with a little cardio at the Martin City Whiskey Run 5K and Kid’s Fun Run at 8 a.m. and get a free breakfast to fuel the rest of your day at Irishpalooza, which includes a best dressed dog contest, a prince and princess contest and a parade at 2 p.m.

Shawnee is also busting out the green for a Sunday parade, which begins at 11 a.m. Need something stylish to wear? Consider one of these options to look good (and avoid pesky pinchers) while showing off your Irish and KC pride.

Monday

The 42nd Annual Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade starts making its way through Midtown and Westport at 11 a.m. This year’s theme is the March of the Irish, and the festivities will be led by Royals’ Hall of Famer and current T-Bones First Base Coach Frank White as grand marshal. You never know who or what you’ll see, so pick a spot along the route early, then enjoy the rest of the afternoon with green beer from Westport watering holes and live music at KC’s biggest beer garden.

Make this weekend a staycation and avoid worrying about transportation. Hotel Phillips is offering a special room rate as well as a shuttle to and from the parade. Savor 12 Baltimore’s lunch and dinner menu filled with special dishes made from scratch, sip one of the bar’s three Irish-inspired specialty craft cocktails being served throughout March and then recover Tuesday morning with an energizing breakfast and Bloody Marys.

Live music reigns supreme at the Power & Light District’s St. Patty’s celebration. Check out a free show from SoCal alternative outfit The Mowgli’s with special guest Misterwives at the KC Live Block. Maker’s Mark will have $5 green martinis and Guinness beers as well as half-price Irish whiskey. Green beer is on tap at McFadden’s, which is also serving up bottomless bacon and eggs.

Lucky for us.
