Did you know this tasty bit of history?
For most of us, giving or receiving a box of Russell Stover chocolates is reserved for special occasions. Keeping the experience—and the chocolates—fresh has been the company’s goal since Kansas native Russell Stover and his wife, Clara, first started selling sweet treats 90 years ago.
The couple chose to continue hand-dipping their candies to guarantee a thicker layer of chocolate even after machines came along offering a quicker, less-expensive alternative. And when the Kansas City-based company decided to take its products national, it added manufacturing plants and distribution centers across the country to ensure quality.
Today Russell Stover products are sold in more than 70,000 stores throughout the U.S. and Canada, but the chocolates are still made in small batches using Clara and Russell’s original recipes. What’s more, the company has stayed close to home, proof that some relationships are meant to stand the test of time.
