Roni Jaco has had a pretty enviable career. As a sales manager for a Kansas City-based alcoholic beverages distributor, she spent more than a decade and a half learning about (and no doubt tasting) fine wines. Then, a few years ago, Jaco decided to resign from her sales job to start a new career that would allow her the opportunity to do something she’s always loved: travel to exotic destinations.
Thanks to her father’s military career, Jaco caught the travel bug early, growing up in far-flung destinations including Japan and Hong Kong. Jaco’s passport is getting plenty of stamps these days as she travels the globe, searching for handcrafted textiles, home décor, art and jewelry for her web-based boutique, The Loaded Trunk. And she has a great eye for pieces that integrate beautifully into Western homes, picking up on some of the hottest design trends of recent years.
No wonder her stock, which includes vintage Suzani throws from Uzbekistan, ikat pillows from Thailand and Indonesia, leather poufs from Morocco, cowhide rugs from Brazil, and hand-painted ceramic bowls from Turkey, just to name a few items, regularly makes its way into top design magazines, such as “House Beautiful,” “Traditional Home” and “Rue.”
