Stylish surroundings, great people, high-rated wines and a great price tag makes Sheraton’s Social Hour a must-try.
What do you get when you combine one of KC’s swankiest hotels with a weekly wine tasting? The answer is Sheraton Crown Center’s Social Hour, where it’s more than just socially acceptable to connect with friends or meet new ones. It’s downright smart. That’s because you’ll get two 2-ounce pours of wines rated 90 and above by Wine Spectator magazine for just $5, presented as they should be—in Riedel stemware.
While the hotel’s second-floor Spectators Bar & Grill is being renovated, Social Hour, hosted Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., takes place in the lobby bar. Not a bad thing; the expansive lobby has been beautifully redecorated in a sophisticated color palette with cushy sofas and seating areas that are meant for socializing with friends or more intimate conversations. One thing that remained during the two-year, $22-million renovation (which included Sheraton’s sister property, the Westin Crown Center) is the spectacular Rick Neblurg Ball Sculpture Chandelier overhead, featuring more than 2,000 aluminum-plated silver spheres suspended by 361 chains.
Once Spectators re-opens, it’s a snap to pair the wines with savory flatbread pizzas or pan-seared potstickers. Or turn the wine sampling into a precursor for dinner here or at one of the nearby restaurants, such as The American or Milano. Watch Sheraton Crown Center’s social media sites for news about the weekly offerings.
