Skyline Downtown Salon: Style Through a Point of View

Some of Kansas City’s best stylists provide exquisite service in a salon that also provides a great view of the city.

Here’s the real question for people getting primped at Skyline Downtown Salon: is the view better out the window or in the mirror?

We’re guessing it’s the mirror’s reflection after one of the top-notch hairdressers is finished doing an up-do, blow out or major color transformation. Naturally, the vista – particularly stellar at night – isn’t the only reason to book an appointment at Skyline. The roster of a dozen or so hairdressers and estheticians are rated among the best in the city; in fact the salon and individual stylists always rank high in KC Magazine’s annual City’s Best competition.

Nick Jenkins, a stylist who’s booked for months in advance, has one goal: “I love making people pretty.” Oz Zuniga has his own fan club, and co-owner and creative director, Arlen Wickstrum, is one of the town’s most sought-after stylists for editorial features, ads and events.

The salon also made waves (see what we did there?) with two major awards recently. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Great Kansas City handed it the “New Small Business of the Year Award” in 2013, and it took second place, nationally, in The Oribe Backstage Improvisation Challenge.

Skyline’s owners and team are also first with scissor-sheathed hands in the air when it comes to giving back to the community. Recent “Skyline Cares” programs included donations to NewHouse and Operation Breakthrough. So it looks like the adage is true: Pretty is as pretty does. Carry on.
