Just walking into Polivka Studio in the River Market is a powerful thing.
Amber curls of spalted maple and dark-brown spirals of walnut spill onto the floors and a marvelous scent of wood and polishing punctuates the air as artisans craft benches, credenzas and chairs. The studio’s latest work is the Flint Hills Collection, an homage to Midwest sensibility and craftsmanship rooted in tradition.
The pieces—ranging from a side table to a rocking chair—incorporate exquisite details, often using primitive methods of construction that have endured over the centuries. Many of the furnishings Polivka Studio creates are made from reclaimed or responsibly harvested timbers. You’ll find solid woods and veneers in ash, poplar, hickory and more; specialty woods such as hackberry and mahogany are available in limited runs.
The lines are clean, functional and designed with elegant proportions—truly heirloom quality. The low console, shown, is ideal for media storage in a living space or office. The middle compartment has an optional sliding or hinged door. It measures 19.5 inches high by 72-inches long.
