Top Drawer Craftsmanship in the Crestwood Shops

A fascinating story comes along with every antique at Charlecote in the Crestwood Shops.

Witness this exquisite William and Mary chest of drawers. The oyster veneer is named for the labor-intensive technique of applying crosscut wafers of wood (olive wood in this case) to resemble oyster shells. Here, the five oak-lined drawers are inlaid in the same pattern as the top, which features fitted brass drop handles and cast lock escutcheons. The hardware and bun feet have been replaced, but this circa 1700 beauty retains its original color and patination.

Note, too, the heart-shaped pattern on each corner; Valentine’s gift, anyone? Price upon request.
