  • Tell us about Fire Lake Camp and its summer events.

Julie Zoller: Our summer is busy at Fire Lake Camp with many events such as asparagus picking, farm to table dinners, Victorian picnics, private dinners, rehearsal dinners, farm weddings and more.

  • Please share your design/décor philosophy for entertaining and events at Fire Lake and your own home.

My love of design is ever-present in everything we do here, from our tables settings for our dinners—using fresh flowers and unique re-purposed items—to our garden displays. The idea is to make visitors feel relaxed and inspired. It’s important to have tranquil resting places. We do not have enough rest in our life, so we have hanging beds in the screened porch, resting places in the garden and a cozy setting near the lake.

  • As a broker at The Zoller Group for Keller Williams Realty, how do you help homeowners prepare to sell their home?

Our passion is to find exactly what our buyers are looking for, whether it’s a cottage in Leawood or a country dream home. I love the process of helping a client get their home ready for sale. The flow of the home is so important, using unrelated colors in adjoining rooms can make the house feel like a disjointed series of spaces. Colors that relate to each other draw the eye from one room to the next and create a pleasing flow. It’s so fun to transform a room by changing the flow, moving furniture or touring the home to find treasure that would make a “wow” impact or be an attractive and unique hidden storage option.

  • What are some of your favorite places to shop or visit in Kansas City for home design ideas and inspiration? Any other tips you’d like to share?

I love Red Cedar Gardens, one of my favorite places to shop on the planet for home or garden decor. I love bringing the outdoors in. I love antique stores and First Fridays, of course. One Block West in Paola and The Front Porch in Ottawa are wonderful. The best decorating idea I can give the readers is to make it comfortable and special. Don’t be afraid to re-purpose, bring the garden in and make a space that makes you want to relax in it. Oh, and don’t forget to sit and relax.
