City’s Best: The Kauffmans

Even with a legacy of selfless dedication to the Kansas City metro, in 2013 the Kauffmans continue to pour their souls into the city to take the City’s Best in Philanthropy.

The Kauffman name is synonymous with philanthropy.

For example, as chairman and CEO of the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation, Julia Irene Kauffman has followed in the footsteps of her generous forbearers, devoting time and resources to supporting the arts in Kansas City. While her most well known contribution came in 2011 with the city’s dazzling new performing arts center (to which Julia contributed more than $100 million for the construction), Julia constantly gives back.

Most recently, she donated a $20 million challenge grant to help bring UMKC’s Conservatory of Music and Dance from the Volker campus to a downtown location, a change that could boost the Conservatory’s arts profile as well as bolster a continued revival of the downtown Kansas City area.
