This Is KC readers have determined that the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts is more than just a pretty face. They voted it the City’s Best Performing Arts Venue.
In its first two years alone, the Center has welcomed more than 800,000 guests and hosted performances ranging from classical Broadway to country music. And by working with other downtown institutions, the Center is wielding the power of the arts to ignite a spark that will keep an engine of economic and cultural vitality running throughout the community.
“Together, we’re all working to increase the quality of life in our region, providing arts and leisure activities for local residents as well as tourists who bring dollars in from outside of the area,” says Jane Chu, director of the Center. Reverberations of such efforts extend to the grassroots level as well, through programs like the Open Doors Initiative and the Community Tickets Fund, enabling many low-income families to attend a performance and treated almost 50,000 children to a free matinee. kauffmancenter.org
