City’s Best: Harvesters

Our homegrown food bank easily takes the City’s Biggest Heart award as voted by our readers.

66,000—that’s the total count of people receiving emergency food assistance in Kansas City’s Harvesters network each week, and more than one third of the recipients are children.

Harvesters, the winner of this year’s Biggest Heart award, stands by its mission to feed hungry people today and end hunger tomorrow.

In 2012, Harvesters distributed more than 41 million pounds of food and household products to residents in 26 counties across the metro, with recipients collecting food in locations ranging from emergency food pantries to soup kitchens, children’s homes, shelters for battered persons and homes for the mentally disabled.

As Kansas City’s only food bank, Harvesters’ commitment to its community is helping fill hungry bellies and warming hearts.
