Mattie Rhodes Art Gallery hosts the Day of the Dead Street Festival and Sugar Skull Parade on Saturday, October 5, from 1–10 p.m.
Experience the largest and longest running Day of the Dead Festival in Kansas City. Watch live entertainment, enjoy delicious food from various vendors, and browse wonderful handmade art and gifts. Kids will enjoy the carnival area with fun games, face painting, great art activities. The exhibit of altars and artwork will also be open all day.
The Children’s area includes a Palace Petting Zoo, Trackless Train, Treasures of the Caribbean Obstacle Course, Moon Walk and carnival games and prizes.
2013 vendors include Evil Pawn Jewelry, Taco Republic Truck, Paleterias Tropicana, Minsky’s Pizza Latinos, It Works, Oropeza Mexican Imports, Delia’s Silver Lining, Pan de Americas, 816 Bike Collective, World’s Window, Mean Vegan Products, and more.
Second Day of the Dead Art Gallery Reception – Friday, November 1 from 6–10 p.m.
To celebrate, listen to live music and at 8 p.m. they will have the Quinceanera Calaca Parade lead by Stone Lion Puppets through the Westside Neighborhood in festive costumes. Everyone is invited to join in the fun. 6–9 p.m. - DJ Elwood, Mariachi Musico & Stone Lion Puppets Parade
