Fall Music Preview: The Grisly Hand

August 7, Kauffman Stadium | October 11, Record Bar

Despite the gruesome name, this high-spirited band has won over local audiences since 2009 with its Americana mix of roots-driven romps, covers of pop/rock gems like Radiohead’s “Thinking About You” and sheer gusto.

Lead singer Lauren Krum’s voice can wail, croon and convey powerful emotion backed by a tight band including guitarist/vocalist Jimmy Fitzner and Mike Stover’s emotive musicianship on slide guitar.

Their new full-length album “Country Singles” refers to the band’s joke premise about a rural newsletter for lonely Middle Americans. “It’s also a brassy little insinuation that all of our songs are hit singles! Even though a few of them could hardly be called ‘country,’” says Stover.

Humor aside, the band’s sound goes beyond country roots to fold in classic soul, punk rock and blues. Their live performances shift from lightning in a bottle to the summer wonderment of lightning bugs glowing at dusk.

Catch them Wednesday, August 7, at Kauffman Stadium, where it is “Student Night at The K”

Friday, October 11 at Record Bar (1020 Westport Road).
