Real Gourmet Fast Food For Any Budget

Orange-Box-Kansas-City

Gourmet food fast? Orange Box makes it possible by serving up big dishes with even bigger flavor.

Weeknights have a tendency to get away from us. Work carries on past 5 p.m., laundry builds up at home and meanwhile, tiredness begins to take over the senses. On nights like these, it would be nice to have a place where healthy and gourmet carryout is an option.

Orange Box’s concept offers delicious carryout meals from a constantly evolving menu, available for purchase Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Three-cheese and beef lasagna with lemon broccoli and cheese toast? No problem, just place an order in advance.

Along with their massive tenderloin and pulled pork sandwich (pictured above), the fish taco (left) is one of their most popular dishs. “I never would have predicted that those would be the most popular,” Chef Welsch says.

The Pulled Pork Sandwich is one of Orange Box’s most popular items, along with the giant fish tacos, pictured above.

Orders can be placed online, by telephone or by stopping at the storefront. Customers can also eat at Orange Box, which can accommodate 55 to 60 people, or rent the space for private parties.

“We still do catering,” Chef Scott Welsch says, “but I’m trying to redefine my focus. I did catering for 10 years. Now, I want to try something new.”

After studying history and art at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Welsch graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1993 and continues to travels extensively. He says these experiences provided him with exposure to foods and ingredients that he might not otherwise have encountered. This informs Welsch’s current style of cooking, which involves openness to new influences and even customer suggestions.

“I have customers request things like meatloaf and I’ll cook meatloaf for the next day,” Welsch says.

Orange Box makes sure you never have to wonder where the meat is. Their pork tenderloin sandwich has made many fans since they first served it up.

The thought behind Orange Box’s cuisine is simple: Prepare the food people grew up with, but turn the flavor volume up. The appearance of lamb burgers with chive lemon sauce and baked cod with a tarragon cream on the menu signals that this is not the typical hamburgers and fish sticks of childhood. This is gourmet food on an accessible, family-style level and with the menu continually changing, returning and first-time customers will not soon tire of turning to Orange Box.
