Robin Foster Named General Counsel for Children’s Mercy

Kansas City attorney Robin Foster has been named General Counsel for Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics, assuming duties this summer.

Foster currently is a partner at Husch Blackwell, and focuses his practice on strategic transactions (such as mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures), corporate governance and regulatory compliance. He has extensive experience representing hospitals and hospital systems, as well as clients in other sectors.

“I have had the privilege for many years to work with exceptional colleagues and wonderful clients at Husch Blackwell,” Foster said. “In this new chapter of my career, I look forward to joining the Children’s Mercy team, and working to support the vital mission of the hospital.”

Foster earned his undergraduate degree from Westminster College and his law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law. In recognition of his work in mergers and acquisitions, Foster was named by Missouri Lawyers Weekly as one of its 2005 Lawyers of the Year.

“Over the years, Children’s Mercy has benefitted from having Robin as outside counsel for the hospital on a number of key legal matters,” said Randall L. O’Donnell, PhD, president and chief executive officer for Children’s Mercy. “We are absolutely delighted he will be joining us full-time so we can better leverage his extraordinary legal skill and experience to the benefit of our patients and families.”

Foster is replacing Sally Surridge, who, after 12 years of service to Children’s Mercy as General Counsel, is relocating to southern California with her family.

“Sally has been so much more than our General Counsel,” Dr. O’Donnell said. “She’s been a team member, friend and confidante. Her legal advice and counsel have helped us guide Children’s Mercy as it’s grown into one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals. I am deeply grateful for her many years of dedicated service to our institution.”
