The KC Magazine 100

Ron Berg

When Berg and his wife, Sherri, adopted a sick and bedraggled little mutt from an organization dedicated to rescuing dogs from puppy mills, the photographer didn’t just get a new best friend, he found a worthy cause. Hearing the conditions the pup Monty was saved from prompted Berg, whose work has appeared in GQ, Esquire and InStyle as well as commercial pieces for Toyota, Sprint, McDonald’s and others, to get involved with the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation and the Great Plains Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GPSPCA).

Berg made a rare appearance in front of the lens with his beloved Monty in GPSPCA’s FuzzyFotosKC campaign in 2012. Since then, he has often ignored the old adage about not working with animals, using his talents to photograph dogs (and other pets) for the benefit of GPSPCA. The 2013 spay-and-neuter campaign Berg worked with the the organization on just won a major advertising award. He also recently partnered with the organization and Tivol marketing director Adam Gebhardt to create a series of heart-melting ads for the jeweler featuring some of the shelter’s pets.

The photographer has also opened his Berg Event Space, one of the city’s most popular spots for soigné private events, for fundraisers to benefit the GPSPCA and other animal welfare organizations.
