Kansas City’s Influential Women: Begonya Klumb

Begonya Klumb, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer, UMB Financial Corporation

A native of Spain, Begonya Klumb was raised in Europe and studied economics at Spain’s University of Alicante. She completed a master’s degree in European Enterprise Management in England and Germany before heading to the U.S., where she earned a master’s at Yale University.

She came to Kansas City and UMB 10 years ago, and by 2008, Klumb had built the UMB’s mergers and acquisitions department, serving as its director. She has since helped UMB close more than 20 acquisitions. Prior to her promotion to executive vice president in February of this year, she served as UMB’s director of corporate strategy and development and was integral in raising $231 million in common stock from Wall Street to position the bank for future growth. Before joining UMB, Klumb worked in investment banking for Citigroup in New York, consulted with Deloitte in London, worked in Germany for the global manufacturing giant BOSCH and spent the first years of her career working in the banking industry in Spain.

All totaled, Klumb believes her experience helps her influence decisions and drive results, not only at the bank, but in her community as well.
