Life is a numbers game for 24-year-old Jake Timmins. With a double major in Risk Management & Insurance and Finance, this associate broker—and recent transplant to Kansas City—may spend his work week handling percentages and decimal points, but his free time is mostly spent volunteering for the Big Impact Group (B.IG.) of Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City.
Timmins has been actively involved in numerous BBBS fundraising events, including Bowl for Kid’s Sake and an annual disc golf tournament, where his teams have collectively raised more than $4,000 for the organization. Timmins also sits on the Board of Trustees for the international business fraternity Gamma Iota Sigma, which is dedicated to promoting, encouraging and sustaining student interest in the insurance industry.
Timmins knows first-hand how positive role models can shape a child’s future. As the first of his family to graduate from a four-year college, Timmons recalls how honored he was to be asked to give the student address during the commencement ceremony. Timmons credits his mother—his biggest mentor—with providing him the guidance to finish school and land his current position.
“She used to take me on business trips when I was growing up, so from a young age, I developed a strong desire to pursue a career in business,” Timmons says. “I would not be in the position I am in today without her help and guidance.”
Timmins’ personal life revolves mostly around travel and sports. A true baseball aficionado, he dreams of one day visiting all of the current Major League Baseball stadiums—“I have only been to seven so far,” says this single, “so I have some work to do!”
